2008 San Francisco Bay Guardian Best of the Bay Singer
Songwriter releases Toy Music
San Francisco, CA December 13, 2008
A little creativity and resourcefulness can go a long
way in the life of a musician. Curt Yagi, a San Francisco-based
singer/songwriter, announced the release of a toy
version of his single Rise Up available on
YouTube. The song was recorded with all toy instruments,
a few household items and a bit of creativity to make
an upbeat, family-friendly pop song.
For
some reason when I perform my music, kids always seem
to start dancing, says Curt. I thought, why
not record a song using instruments that would appeal
to kids? While I know kids will enjoy the song, my fans
appreciate what I have done. So far, the response
has been positive.
To
create his work, Curt used the following instruments found
at toy stores, second hand shops and his home:
-
Melissa and Doug toy piano
- Barbie flute
- Toy tambourine
- Toy ukulele
- Toy guitar
- Bowl covered in plastic wrap
- Hand claps
